The canteen was always a source of endless angst and annoyance to Noah Werden-Stryker. The masses of people around him, crushing him from all sides seemed to have returned with a vengeance as soon as he had exited the lunch line with his tray, growling lowly as he stamped down hard on some poor unsuspecting sophomore's foot in an attempt to make his way through to a free table. He shook his head, fighting the urge to burst out into a stream of expletives and insults... and failing badly. 'Bloody hell! If you people moved any slower you'd be standing stone still!' this was answered with a rousing reply of dirty looks and muttered insults from those closest to him and couple of angry shouts from a group of jocks slightly to his right. He snarled and raised one hand in a one-fingered salute in their direction before finally losing his temper and elbowing those nearest and shoving his way through to the other end of the hall.
He sighed deeply and collapsed down in an empty seat at the one free table right at the back of the hall. He looked down at his meal, suddenly losing his appetite as he realised that in all the time that it had taken to find a place to sit, his pasta was now cold and rather congealed. He rolled his eyes, pushing the tray away irritably and delved into the pocket of his jacket for a cigarette and his lighter. He then proceeded to light up right in the middle of the hall, smirking at the idea that any time now a prefect or teacher would come trotting up to demand that he put out the cigarette, giving some bullshit reason like it was a fire hazard or something... 'It'll only become a hazard if I decide to put it out in your eye matey...' he thought as he eyed up a rather nervous-looking female prefect who seemed to be finding it hard to decide whether to come and tell him off or run for cover...

Jacqueline played around with her blonde curls as they flowed down her slim shoulders. A small chill ran through her body as the cold breeze brushed past her. She noticed someone opened a door and she shook her head; people could be so idiotic sometimes! Opening an outside door in the middle of freaking winter?
She looked around impatiently as the lunch line moved, slowly, as though they were being careful. She crinkled her nose and sighed, as boredom took over. She was starving and it was certain that people seemed to be moving 50% slower than on other days.
As she finally got her food, she hurried out into the cafeteria and scanned the crowd for a place to sit. In a far corner, she spotted Noah and she gave a small smile. ‘Finally, someone with a bit of sense in them,’ she whispered under her breath and walked gracefully over. She set her tray down and laughed a bit, before sitting down also.
“You do realize smoking will kill you someday?” she added, as she extended her hand, “Have one for me?” Jacqueline asked, with a playful smile on her seemingly flawless face, and then awaited the answer of her best friend.

Noah rolled his eyes melodramatically, 'Dont you start!' he shook his head and returned the smile, 'Sure.' pulling out the packet of cigarettes and pushing them across the table to her along with his lighter. He tapped the ash off the end of his own cig onto his ruined lunch before leaning back in his chair, smiling softly, 'Well now, I hope you've had a slightly more productive day than I have... Fell asleep in chemistry again, some random girl in my class told me that if she hadn't woken me up when she did, some asshole was going to set my hair on fire with a bunsen burner... Bastards...'
He shook his head again, his long dark hair falling in front of his eyes once more. He brushed it away sharply and took another drag of his cigarette, a smile creeping across his face once more when he realized that he now had a particular Say Anything song stuck in his head, probably from earlier when he had been listening to his iPod on the bus to school. He hummed softly the opening before the words finally returned to him, ' "Today I sat and smoked myself to cancer..." rather appropriate, huh?' he chuckled softly. 'Anyway, enough of my rambling, gawd you really should gag me when I start on a rant, I cant help myself sometimes...'

Jacqueline laughed slightly at her friend’s comments and slowly took the cigarette packet, before pulling one out and lighting it carefully. Smoking wasn’t exactly her thing, but it had become a habit soon enough, so why quit yet? She sighed and took a long drag, then started coughing, collapsing in laughter a couple of seconds after. “I’ll never get used to this. Need to take it slowly, huh?” She said, mostly to herself and kept on listening.
“Your day seems a hell of a lot more interesting than mine; Of that I assure you,” she stated with a definite nod and tilted her head to the side. She pulled her hair back and shrugged, “ Chemistry was a total drag also and not to mention Calculus…Boring,” she added in a sing-song voice. “I’ve been freaking bored the whole day. Nothing interesting around here, I swear. We need some excitement in our teenage lives. No rumors about the preps or somethin’? I mean really, the whole world is collapsing in total dullness. “
She leaned back and played with her golden curls, another habit she had developed since she was a small child. “And, you should be careful with your hair, it’s really, really pretty and no one should mess with it or they'll have to deal with me,” Jacqueline said with a smile, then threw her head back and laughed. “You know I’ve always been jealous of your hair!”

Noah nodded in agreement, 'I know what you mean, we should go shopping or clubbing sometime, or even throw a party! That would be cool... I might actually find someone then...' he sighed deeply, as much as he tried to cover it up but swearing blind that he needed no-one and friends were the best he could ever want, Noah was increasingly finding it more and more lonely being single while he watch countless happy couples pass him by...
He grinned widely at the compliment, waving his hand dramatically as he spoke, 'Why thank you darling, but there's no need to be jealous, there are people who would die for your curls!' he burst into a fit of giggles, shaking his head vigorously. 'You're one of the few people I know who don't actually have to do much to their appearance to look good, not like some of the bleach-blond tarts around here.'

Jacque laughed once again and shook her head, yet a sad smile erupted on her face as she felt her friend’s distress. “Trust me, my dear amie, everyone is looking for the right one! And I’m sure we’ll both find our other half sometimes soon, but for right now we have each other and all that we should think about is…partying,” she added with an encouraging, small hug and almost yelled out the last word.
“And that is only one of the good ways to find someone at least worth our time, wouldn’t you think?” she asked, with a smile and ran a hand through her hair once again. “Thanks for the note on my appearance, it really brightened my day. But hey, did you take a look at yourself, mate? I mean really, you are gorgeous!”
She leaned back in her chair and took a small bite of her food. She almost spat it out, and sighed, swearing under her breath. She had most certainly lost her appetite. This was surely a good enough reason not to eat.

Noah smiled at Jaqueline's reassuring words, 'Thanks Jack, how is it you always know exactly what to say?' he grinned, turning up his nose slightly as she also pushed away her food, 'I know, shit isn't it?' he looked around, shaking his head at the assembled masses of mindless drones he was forced to call classmates, 'You know what, lets get the hell outta here, I don't have anymore classes for the rest of the day, what about you?'
He stood up and pulled his jacket back on, 'If we hurry we might be able to get out of here before any teachers spot us, then we've got the rest of the day in town!' he grinned and grabbed her hand quickly before they dived into the crowd, roughly pushing anyone in his way so that he could pull her through with him without them both being squashed. Once they made it to the door he breathed a sigh of relief and pushed it open, stuffing his hands into his pockets as they walked across the parking lot, 'So what'll it be? Your car or my bike?'

Jacqueline smiled slightly and gave a mischievous grin as Noah proposed his interesting ideas. “Are you kidding me, of course I’d like to get out of here!” she added and got up to throw her food away. She hurried back to the table and put on her dark blue sweater.
As her friend pulled her through the crowds, all she could do was hold on tight to his hand and well…close her eyes? She shrugged and kept on walking at a rushed pace.
Luckily no teachers had seen her and the only class she had in the afternoon was Clay and Construction, which she was most horrible at. She never got those stuff anyways, she didn’t even consider it art. And she, Jacqueline Lefleur sure knew what art really was!
As they got into the parking lot, she hugged herself tightly as the biting cold got to her. “Goodbye cozy heat,” she whispered to herself, too low for Noah to hear, as her teeth chattered wildly. “Bloody hell, when will this country warm itself up?” she added out loud and laughed at her own freezing misery.
“And we’ll surely take my car, no way were biking!” Jacqueline stated with a definite nod and took the jingling keys out of her jeans’ pocket. She locked hands with him, making an attempt at getting warmer, as the chilly breeze blew some loose strands of hair away from her face.

Noah couldn't help but laugh at Jackie's comments about the weather, 'Oooh, not for a couple of months at least! We'll have to buy you a scarf while we're out!' he chuckled and shook his head, 'I thought you might say that, ah well, lead the way mon cherie! He grinned widely and squeezed her hand reassuringly, following her towards her car and pausing a moment to let her unlock it before sliding into the passenger seat.
He shivered and rubbed his hands together once the doors were closed and they were both back in the semi-warmth. He pulled his seatbelt on and started to mess around with the radio stations, giggling softly as he knew that it was most likely incredibly annoying. Once he had found a station that he liked and leaned back in his seat and grinned again, 'Sooo, what are you planning to get? I have a birthday present to get, apart from that I just plan to get anything I like the look of!'

Jake laughed slightly and shivered as she got into the car. It was most certainly warmer, yet still moderately cold. She sighed and turned on the engine before rubbing her hands together as heat flooded the car. Looking over to Noah, who was playing with the radio stations, she gave him a glance and laughed once more.
“Yeah, well I really need to buy some clothes, and a scarf, considering I’m freezing…I will have to follow your advice,” she added with a nod and started backing up the car, out of the parking lot.
“So where should we go? Any store in mind?” she asked and leaned back, waiting for him to answer. She tapped her fingers onto the steering wheel and stifled a sneeze; she hoped she wasn’t getting a cold that would be the last thing she wanted.

Noah grinned and nodded, 'Lets go to SoHo! There's some nice cafe's there too, we can get some decent food there, maybe have afternoon tea.' he snickered and ran a hand through his hair. 'We'll probably have the street to ourselves on a day like this, I cant wait!' he tapped his feet along to the bass line of the current song on the radio, looking outside the window as they backed out of the parking lot.
He hummed softly as they made their way out onto the main street and headed into the center of town, smiling when he saw the familiar bright lights, 'Now this sure as hell beats chemistry class...' he said softly and chuckled. 'We should also get some things for the party, we can have it at my house, it doesn't need to be too big, there are very few people worthy of being invited either way!'

“SoHo it is then, my dear friend,” she stated with another smile and pressed down on the pedal, moving slowly out of the parking lot. “I was going to offer my house, considering no one is home, and my brother is too involved with his school work, he won’t even notice or will probably be at the library. It is really big, so you can invite more people and then you can spend the weekend!” she continued, hopefully and looked back at Noah.
Jacqueline hit the breaks as a red car in front of her stopped abruptly. “Shit, honestly when will people finally know how to drive? If things go like this, I’ll crash my car in the next week and I love this car!” She shook her head annoyed of what had happened, but tried to keep a positive attitude.
“Oh well, if anything happens, I’ll make my parents buy me a new car, I mean I do deserve one, don’t I?” she added with a laugh and a wink. "So, who are you going to invite?"
